Overview & Highlights

Nestled right in the heart of Ajijic on the charming Guadalupe Victoria 4, Art Coffee Ajijic offers more than just a cup of coffee – it delivers a sensory experience steeped in warmth, community, and creativity. This delightful coffee shop has carved out a special place for itself among locals and visitors alike, thanks to its inviting ambiance and a menu that celebrates the pleasures of organic, lovingly crafted beverages.

Art Coffee Ajijic’s charm begins with its prime location overlooking the bustling Ajijic Plaza, where the shaded arcade creates a peaceful oasis from the Mexican sun. Here, patrons can settle into comfortable garden and terrace seating, savoring their beverages while indulging in some of the best people-watching and friendly conversation the town offers. The café’s nurturing atmosphere feels like a welcoming hug, making it easy to linger over a smooth cold brew or a perfectly crafted cappuccino — both favorites celebrated by longtime visitors and newcomers alike.

The menu, although concise, is intentionally curated to maintain quality and freshness, featuring organic coffee options along with a small but tempting selection of desserts. Customers rave about the rich cappuccino that has become a standout since their arrival, as well as homemade delights such as carrot cake and buttery croissants that complement the coffee beautifully. Each sip and bite is a testament to the café’s dedication to authentic flavor and artisanal care.

More than just a place to grab coffee, Art Coffee Ajijic cultivates a vibrant, sociable vibe, often frequented by an engaging older expat crowd and local artists, which adds layers of warmth and cultural richness to every visit. The friendly, attentive staff consistently make guests feel at home, whether you’re meeting friends, making new connections, or simply seeking solace with a laptop in one hand and a steaming cup of java in the other—complete with reliable WiFi.

While some visitors have noted minor concerns such as seating placement to avoid the mold-prone spots near the entrance, these tales are far outweighed by the numerous heartfelt experiences shared around the café’s tables. Indeed, the sense of community here extends beyond coffee—from inspiring local artworks that adorn the walls to unexpected acts of kindness among patrons and owners alike.

For anyone exploring Ajijic seeking a genuine taste of place, culture, and camaraderie wrapped in the rich aroma of organic coffee, Art Coffee Ajijic is a must-visit destination. Whether you're a casual coffee lover, a remote worker, or a social butterfly, this small but vibrant coffee shop invites you to pause, sip deeply, and become part of its ever-growing story.

Great central location right on the plaza, deliciously smooth cold brew, very kind and helpful folks behind the counter, lively older ex-pat scene

Very tasty coffee and a nice location. Today I tried a croissant, which was excellent. Service is good. I really like it. Unfortunately the place has a mold problem and I have to sit as far away from the entrance as I can.

This place has served the best cappuccino since I arrived in this region in 18 days. The carrot cake was also delicious and the owners were friendly.

This is a lovely cafe with delicious beverages. We enjoyed meeting friends here. The place is very clean and there is a washroom for customer use. I gave food only 3 stars because there was only 1 item available. This establishment is small so I understand that they cannot take the risk of having more food items they may not sell. We will definitely be going back very soon.

Delightful spot in the shady arcade off the Ajijic Plaza. It's a great place to linger with no pressure from friendly staff. Bonus: beyond people-watching, it's a great spot to run into friends as well as make new ones.

Great local art, food, conversation. Attorney Sonia, who kindly picked me up one very hot afternoon while I was sitting, dejected, on an unsecured rock by side of road while hiking to my friend's home with a very heavy backpack, turns out to be the girlfriend of one of the kindest men of the world: one of the owners of Art Coffee Ajijic, David. Last night, at 8 pm Sonia and David were sitting outside Art Coffee with two friends, Claudio and Claudia. I'm a Roman history buff. Claudia is an ancient Roman tribe. Used both as surname and first name. Julius Caesar (Caesar, an honorific, not a surname) was a Claudio, his sister, wife, daughter either a Claudia or a Julia.
